ALMA COLLEGE

Undergraduate academic credit for course work completed at the Academia Latinoamericana is awarded to those students who enroll through Alma College.

Quality is the hallmark of participation in the Alma College program in Sucre. Alma College, a highly selective liberal arts college located in central Michigan, is recognized as a Baccalaureate I school by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. A Phi Beta Kappa institution, Alma is one of 80 national liberal arts colleges which are members of the Annapolis Group and is among 58 select schools nationwide with membership in the Consortium of Liberal Arts Colleges. Alma College is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.

Credit is awarded for all levels of study, from beginning to advanced levels of Spanish. All academic credit is fully transferable to other accredited colleges and universities. Students enrolling through Alma College will receive from 12 to 18 semester credits for each completed semester in Quito. For most American institutions this reflects a standard load of four courses, three credits each. Summer students will receive at least three credits for each month of intensive instruction. Alma's program offers academic internship placements for students who are fluent in Spanish, possibilities of direct enrollment in Ecuadorian universities, a flexible calendar accommodating semesters or quarters, an on-site coordinator and built-in excursions. Program fees are inclusive of pre- and post- advising, tuition, private room and bath, breakfast and dinner, orientation, laundry, excursions, an International Student ID card, predeparture handbook, and permanent academic records and transcripts for credit transfer.

NEW MEXICO STATE UNIVERSITY

Academia Latinoamericana de Espaņol, offers students the chance to receive academic credit for Spanish courses completed in Ecuador or Bolivia through New Mexico State University.

N.M.S.U. is a fully accredited institution of higher learning with a student body of over 14,000 offering coursework through the PhD level in many fields. Its overseas programs have been nationally recognized for their excellence. Undergraduate credit is available at all levels, from beginning Spanish to upper-level courses (3 to 12 semester hours), and is fully transferable to other accredited universities. Students should make all arrangements directly through N.M.S.U. prior to beginning the program. The program must consist of minimum 20 hours per week classroom time. Credit requirements and fees (payable directly to N.M.S.U.)

Students must have their university submit an official transcript of their college work which reflects any prior Spanish study before departure in order to be admitted and to receive academic credit. Once you have been accepted into the program N.M.S.U. will mail your acceptance letter and the Evaluation Report Form(s) (ERF). The ERF indicates your placement level and must be presented to the administrators at Academia Latinoamericana. If you do not receive these forms in the week prior to your departure notify N.M.S.U. immediately.

Grades are posted at the end of December, May and August. All payments and required documents must be received during the month prior to the desired posting period. Final decisions regarding the specific course number, level and grade will be made by Dr. Jeff Longwell, Chairman of the Department of Foreign Languages at N.M.S.U. Through Travel Study Programs, Professor Steve Tash. Also, the Academia Latinoamericana has a relationship with The Council for International Education. Students at several colleges and universities have received credit for studies here. E.g. Sage Junior College, Colorado Mountain College, Seattle Central Community college, Mary Washington University, California State University Northridge, University of Wyoming, The Citadel University, Elmira College, Virginia Military Institute, University of Redlands.
